Hello there. My name is Oliver. This is my blog. I wish I was a rapper. My blog is mostly filled with West Ham United Football Club, my family of a wife and two cats, and music that I like.

Here are some music videos I quite like and some words about them. It's a gimmick.

Here's some music I've been listening to recently. ollib1304's Profile Page

LOOK AT YOUR LIFE, LOOK AT YOUR CHOICES!

This is why we can’t have nice things.

You know, then there’s this.

Jesus guys, it’s been nominated for best visual effects, sound mixing and sound editting - hardly major honours. And, and I’ve never seen the film, mind you, but I bet it deserves those nominations just as much as, say, The Help deserves a best picture nod. So why don’t you all get off your pretentious, up your arse cocks and leave it alone, you miserable fuckwits.

Yeah.

This used to be me, every Friday night in the first year of Uni, because, you know, ‘you have to TRY and like some people in your flat, Oliver, you can’t hate everyone’, as my parents said on the way to dropping me there. But THEN I embraced dance. Essentially, my life is like that of Tyler Gage off of Step Up, except with less vandalism and more shy, fey indie kid awkwardness and bitter hatred for the human race.

Mid Morning Music Video #332 - ‘Chains Of Love’ by Ryan Adams

Ryan Adams is a handsome man. Also, got my tickets for his Sheffield City Hall date this morning for Rosie and I, so that’s VERY EXCITING. ‘Ashes & Fire’ is very easily in my top five albums from last year.

My family got me these two programmes for Christmas. They apparently found them in a charity box outside one of the local shops. They’re incredible, made all the more incredible by the fantastic condition they’re in (the Cup Winners Cup Final 1965 has a damaged spine, but other than they are both perfect). They’re really an incredible snapshot of history, adverts for hot Bovril, Woodbine’s and Double Diamond (‘The Beer Men Drink’), comments from the new head of the F.A., old squad pictures, us being good at football, the lot. Bobby Moore was 6’ and 12st 12lb at the time of the 1964 F.A. Cup Final. Bet you didn’t know that. Oh, and the Cup Winners Cup one pictures the World Cup winning side. All three of them. Fabulous.
I’m hopefully going to find a frame for them soon and put them up somewhere in the house - at the moment they’re safely stowed away in a sealed plastic packet on our bookcase. For the money they must have cost, they’ve sure made me a very happy young man. Think they’re going to be around for a very, very long time. They are, after all, beautiful.

Mid Morning Music Video #330 - ‘Glory’ by Jay-Z feat. B.I.C

I think the best way to demonstrate my feelings towards this, the song Jay-Z has written to celebrate the birth of his new baby girl, is to just to direct you to this tweet (yeah, I twitter, add me if you like) I wrote last night,

Mid Morning Music Video #329 - ‘Memory Of You’ by Nicola Roberts

Yesterday, something amazing happened. Nicola Roberts dropped her ‘Yo-Yo’ single (possibly the best song off of ‘Cinderella’s Eyes’, for the record) backed by this, a solo version of ‘Memory Of You’, originally by Girls Aloud, and released as a B-Side to ‘The Loving Kind’. This is it, right here. Give it a listen, it’s probably Girls Aloud’s best B-Side, after ‘above ‘Hoxton Heroes’, which narrowly edges out ‘Dog Without A Bone’ for second place. Anyway, in Nicola’s hands, it stays pretty faithful, and yet becomes even more amazing. Imagine getting as close to Robyn as it is possible to get without actually being Robyn, or a Girls Aloud song that is a slightly more bass-y ‘Untouchable’ and you’re basically there. It’s incredible, and makes me do a little happy dancey smiley thing.

Mid Morning Music Video #328 - ‘212’ by Azealia Banks

Here’s one of 2011’s songs that’s just snuck up on me recently. It’s a bit splendid, is this. 2012 should be the year of amazing female rap music, given Azealia Banks, Kreayshawn, Lady Leshurr and Reema Major all wriggling through last year, to throw on top of Nicki Minaj having a new album out next month.

Mid Morning Music Video #327 - ‘Holy Holy’ by Wye Oak

In keeping with yesterdays theme of doing the best of 2011 in early 2012, here’s Wye Oak’s ‘Holy Holy’, off of their fabulous ‘Civilian’ album, which was pretty much the best album I heard all last year. It’s all wonderful, sharp guitars, breathy female vocals and driving drums. Lovely.
