Hello there. My name is Oliver. This is my blog. I wish I was a rapper. My blog is mostly filled with West Ham United Football Club, my family of a wife and two cats, and music that I like.

Here are some music videos I quite like and some words about them. It's a gimmick.

Here's some music I've been listening to recently. ollib1304's Profile Page

Mid Morning Music Video #293 - ‘Otis’ by The Throne (or Jay-Z and Kanye West, depending on what terminology you’re going for with this whole thing)

All sorts of awesome. If you’re not on ‘Watch The Throne’ yet, you are missing out on some serious aural treats. It is terrific. As you’d probably expect from two of the best artists of our generation, really.

Mid Morning Music Video #258 - ‘Mama’s Boyfriend’ by Kanye West

So, this has leaked - first debuted atop tables at Facebook, this was cut off of ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’. And rightly so, as it turns out, because it wouldn’t fit on there at all. Still, however, this is very very good.

Mid Morning Music Video #209 - ‘All Of The Lights’ by Kanye West

WARNING: If you are epileptic, this video may trigger your epilepsy. If you are male or female with an interest in females this video may trigger your penis/vagina.

I’m a little late, but this video for the biggest and (second) best song from the most recent Kanye West album is pretty awesome. I kind of wish, however, that they’d followed through more with the first minute and a half look/feel than go all mental for the rest with the flashing words, Kanye rapping atop police cars in an alley, and Rhianna barely keeping her Nana’s in her top. They could have kept those, but in smaller doses. But it is quite a good video, I guess, even if the song does really suffer when they cut the Fergie rap out (not that it’s the best bit, just the edit isn’t very nice around there). But, generally, very tasty, as a video.

Mid Morning Music Video #207 - ‘Medley’ by Rhianna, ft. Drake and Kanye West

Look at this awesome Rhianna medley! It features ‘Umbrella’, ‘Only Girl (In The World)’, ‘Rude Boy’, ‘What’s My Name?’ and ‘All Of The Lights’! It’s pretty damned awesome!

(Are all of Rhianna’s songs about sex? I hadn’t really thought about it until now.)

Blame Game by Kanye West.

I don’t even need to say anything about this song.

The last, what, minute/minute and a half of this have become my favourite bit of the Kanye West album.

‘I was fucking parts of your pussy I never fucked before, I was in there like “Oh shit, I never been here before, I’ve never seen this part of pussy town before” It’s like you got this shit reupholstered or some shit. What the fuck happened? Who, who the fuck reupholstered your pussy?

Yeezy reupholstered my pussy.’

Also:

‘I’mma shoot a bootlegger, that’s how good I feel about this n****r’

Mid Morning Music Video #182 - ‘H.A.M’ by Kanye West & Jay-Z

I know, I know, I said no more Kanye. But this song is pretty awesome. And it’s been produced by Lex Luger. I can only assume that Kanye and Jigga have some cracking tales about being put in the Torture Rack whilst listening to it at various stages of production. The track, ahem, suplexes (see a theme, grab a theme, that’s where this shit is going) its way out of the gate with a little synth line that could have been stolen from some Kraftwerk, before Kanye (atomic) drops in with his verse and then there’s this big old attitude adjustment of a chorus with a huge choral bit and some very (pile)driving glooming chords. Then Jay-Z raps it up in what is one of his best of recent years. Kanye and Jay-Z - the total package, I guess.

Mid Morning Music Video #175 - ‘Monster’ by Kanye West ft. Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Bon Iver

Oh Kanye, you so mental. How bad would this world be if Kanye was not mental? It would be a hell of a lot less fun. I read somewhere that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy cost $3 million to make. That’s a lot of money. But then again, Kanye is mental. This video is probably the most solid proof of that. Dead women lounge about the place like decorations, he has those diamond and gold things on his teeth (I’m sure they have a proper name and stuff, but hey, I’m ghetto fabulous, I’ve only just got my first snood, I’m clearly not cool enough to know it), there are two Nicki Minaj’s (two! Two of them! with each other! One is hostage to the other!), Minaj has actual gold fangs, and Jay-Z is just kind of like ‘yo’, ‘ye, this shit be call and all, but me and B we be trying for kids, I can’t be messing with the dead, y’know? Just stick me on my own in a room, yo’. This is probably the second or third best song from the Kanye album, I don’t know what’s above it besides ‘So Appalled’, but something might be. It’s massive. Nicki Minaj is on ‘Beam Me Up Scotty’ form rather than ‘Pink Friday’ form (have I covered ‘Pink Friday’ in depth here yet? I’m not sure I have. It’s OK, but not great. Maybe more to come on this theme). Jay-Z is Jay-Z. Never change Jay, never change. That Rick Ross bit is pretty bloody radical. All in all, this is a very good song.

(2011 there, beginning like 2010 ended with me talking about Kanye. I promise I will not talk about Kanye as much this year. Tomorrow I’m going to talk, at length, about Jamie Woon and how he is the only artist you need to soundtrack your emotional downfall this year.)

Mid Morning Music Video #168 - ‘Christmas In Harlem’ by Kanye West feat. Cyhi Da Prynce and Teyena Taylor

Pow! Take that every Christmas song ever! Kapow! That’s the sound of Kanye West kicking your arse! Urkk! That’s the lines ‘pour some more eggnog in your drink mummy/got a surprise for you that ain’t on Christmas listses/gave her some hot chocolate she said it’s dericious’ destroying your lyrics! Cronk! That’s Cyhi Da Prynce making like Santa Claus ‘I be there soon, on my sled, me and Rudolph/thugs think I’m a Blood ’cause I won’t take this red suit off/ha, I swear I got the freshest wardrobe’ and give present to everyone (even non-Christians)! Ee-yowwwww! That’s you after you realise that Kanye has destroyed you all once again!

No, but seriously, this is amazing. And this is just the start. Apparently he’s going to throw a load more guest appearances at it before it gets properly out there. Hopefully that doesn’t mess it up. If it’s even possible for Kanye to mess anything. I’m not sure it is, you know. I’m not sure it is.

Mid Morning Music Video #157 - ‘So Appalled’ by Kanye West

You can say what you like about the new Kanye record - whether it be the 10.0 from Pitchfork, the 5* from Rolling Stone, the 9/10 everywhere else, the fact that it has enough tracks over 5 minutes that most 70s prog bands would probably deem it excessive - but the fact is (and this is solid FACT and up for no debate whatsoever) that it’s bloody good. Seriously bloody good. Perhaps not completely 10.0, but it’s probably a 9.7 at least, and that in itself is deserving of a 10.0 (0.3 kudos rating for getting such an insane score in the first place). It’s definitely one of the best albums since…in years (I was tempted to go for ‘Source Tags & Codes’ there, the last but one album to get a 10.0 from p4k, but I’m not sure it is. I’ve just put that one on, for the record, but Duffy cropped up on Spotify and shat right royally all over it. Bitch.). It’s easily the best since 2002 (2002 is not a fair year to judge music on - aforementioned …And You Will Know Us…, ‘Sea Change’, ‘Yankee Hotel Foxtrot’, ‘mclsuky Do Dallas’, ‘The Remote Part’, ‘Castaways & Cutouts’, ‘The Eminem Show’ (whatever, it’s amazing), ‘Maladroit’, ‘Murray Street’ (I fucking love ‘Murray Street’, possibly even more than ‘Goo’ at times), ‘Songs For The Deaf’, ‘One Beat’, ‘You Forgot It In People’…I mean, a number of those are up in Favourite Album Ever consideration. 2002 just didn’t play by the rules. Oh, also, I’m not including ‘Love Is Hell’ (2004) as that actually is the best album ever. Whenever I refer to best album ever and it’s not ‘Love Is Hell’, assume I mean second best. It saves me seven characters.), and possibly from before then. It certainly stands as a massive return to form for Kanye (‘808s’ having been rubbish, after all), and stands above ‘The College Dropout’ and ‘Late Registration’ by not having a couple of rubbish songs on it. Every song is essential, and that’s what renders it as beng so bloody good.

Any way, this song. I originally thought my favourite song on here would be ‘Monster’ but it’s actually ‘So Appalled’ by the tiniest of margins, even though qualitywise everything on here is described by the tiniest of margins. The main thing is that Jay-Z’s verse is ridiculous, Kanye’s verse is incredible, Pusha T’s verse is bloody great, RZA’s final verse is awesome and CyHi the Kid’s bit reeks of awesomeness ‘I met this girl on Valentines day/fucked her in May/she found out about April/so she chose to march’. Incredible.

Things I would like for you to take away from this: This song is incredible. The new Kanye album is incredible. I really like ‘The Eminem Show’. You really should listen to ‘Source Tags & Codes’ as it’s amazing. You’re probably wrong if you don’t enjoy hip-hop in anyway and rate this album at anything below a 9.5 on the out of 10 rating system.

Mid Morning Music Video #147 - ‘All Of The Lights’ by Kanye West and just about everybody else ever.

‘So Oliver, just how massive is ‘All Of The Lights’ from the new Kanye album?’

‘Oh, it is so huge, it’s probably three double decker buses mounting a elephant atop a skyscraper big, with someone standing on top of that mess with a huge flag which features just Kanye’s face at three times it’s normal size. It’s that sort of massive. It features just about everyone that has every existed. No, seriously. Rhianna? Check. Fergie? Check. The-Dream? Check. Kid Cudi? Check. Elton bloody John? Check. Hell, Kanye’s so determined to get everyone ever on this song alone, even her off of La Roux gets a look in. That kind of massive. Schizoid beats and all. Hugely huge.’

‘So I should probably listen, yeah?’

‘Unless you want to miss out on a huge song, then yes, very much so. I’d recommend doing it now. It’s that sort of good.’
